Got questions about services provided?

Navigating the evaluation process can bring up a lot of questions—and you're not alone. At Fenton Psychological Services PLLC, you'll find clear, thoughtful answers to the most common inquiries about what to expect, how evaluations are conducted, and how the psychologist can support you along the way.

FAQs

Is all of the testing done online?

Yes, all evaluations are currently conducted online. Fenton Psychological Services provides comprehensive ADHD and Autism assessments through a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. This system supports video conferencing, secure messaging (including appointment reminders and email communication), and the safe exchange of documents between you and your provider.

Do you test adult clients?

Currently, our services are focused on children and young adults between the ages of 4 and 19. Fenton Psychological Services specializes in ADHD and Autism evaluations for this age range. To ensure a comprehensive and accurate diagnostic picture, the psychologist gathers input from parents, caregivers, and educators who know the child best.

What kind of testing does the practice provide for ADHD Evaluations?

Our ADHD evaluations are tailored by age and designed to provide a comprehensive, evidence-based understanding of attention-related concerns. For children ages 4–7, as well as individuals age 8 through adulthood, we administer a set of digital assessments widely used in clinical practice. These tools assess attention, executive functioning, and other cognitive processes associated with ADHD. Each evaluation also includes a series of standardized behavior rating scales and, when appropriate, self-report, parent, or teacher forms.

All evaluations begin with a clinical interview to gather developmental history and background information. Collateral input from parents, educators, or other relevant sources may be requested to support diagnostic accuracy.

What kind of testing does the practice provide for Autism Evaluations?

All autism evaluations are conducted virtually using a secure telehealth platform. Each assessment begins with a clinical interview to gather detailed developmental and background information. We utilize the evidence-based Comprehensive Autism Diagnostic Evaluation (CADE) along with autism-specific behavior rating scales and other diagnostic tools tailored to the client’s age and needs. The psychologist conducts caregiver or self-report interviews, observes social communication during the virtual sessions, and integrates findings across multiple sources—including optional input from teachers or historical records—to inform diagnosis. Personalized recommendations are then provided to support understanding and next steps.

**For in-person evaluations requiring the ADOS-2, and Intelligence (IQ) Testing, we have a waitlist. Feel free to send us an email at afenton@fpsevals.com to inquire about the waitlist.

What if I do not like the results of the evaluation?

We understand that receiving evaluation results can be an emotional process, and questions or concerns may arise. After the assessment, the psychologist will thoroughly review the findings with you, explain the results, and discuss any applicable recommendations.

If you disagree with the outcome—such as the presence or absence of a diagnosis—you’re welcome to seek a second opinion from another qualified psychologist. Please note that once an evaluation is completed, the results and diagnostic conclusions are final. Modifying a diagnosis solely at a client's request would be unethical and is not permitted.

What makes your practice unique in comparison to other online ADHD and Autism testing sites?

Fenton Psychological Services stands apart by offering a truly individualized, clinician-directed experience—not just a quick online screening. All ADHD and Autism evaluations are conducted one-on-one by a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, ensuring that each client receives a thorough and nuanced assessment grounded in clinical expertise. Rather than relying on automated or asynchronous processes, every evaluation includes a live clinical interview, age-appropriate testing, and behavior rating scales. A dedicated feedback session is scheduled to walk through the results, answer your questions, and provide tailored recommendations—including referrals and coordination of care within your community when needed. You’ll also receive a detailed psychological report, personally written, signed, and delivered within 3 to 5 weeks. This level of attention and continuity of care is rarely found among standard online testing services.

Why is a psychological evaluation report needed?

A psychological evaluation report serves as a vital tool for both understanding and supporting your needs. In addition to clarifying whether a diagnosis such as ADHD or Autism is present, the report offers documentation that may be required to access academic accommodations, therapeutic services, workplace supports, or other community-based resources.

It provides a detailed summary of assessment findings, clinical impressions, and individualized recommendations that can help guide next steps and inform those working alongside you—whether in educational settings, medical care, or daily life.

How long does testing take?

The length of testing can vary depending on the type of evaluation and the client’s age. For younger children (as young as age 4), ADHD evaluations—including parent support—typically take about 2 hours. Autism evaluations may take up to 3 hours due to their more comprehensive nature. These times do not include the separate clinical interview and feedback session, each of which usually lasts between 45 to 60 minutes. To ensure the most accurate results, please plan for uninterrupted time during your scheduled testing day.

Does the practice take insurance?

Fenton Psychological Services is currently a self-pay practice. Secure payments can be made through the Client Portal using Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, or a Health Savings Account (HSA). To support greater access to services, we also partner with CareCredit—a healthcare financing option that allows clients to pay over time if needed.

How do I schedule an appointment with your office for testing?

Scheduling an appointment is simple. Just head to the “Contact Us” page on our website and complete the interest form with your basic information. Once submitted, Dr. Fenton will reach out to you for a free initial consultation to discuss your concerns and outline next steps. Following this conversation, you’ll receive a Welcome Email with instructions to access the secure Client Portal. From there, you can schedule your evaluation. After testing is complete, a personalized feedback session will be arranged based on your availability to review results and recommendations.

Is there a cancellation fee?

Yes, a cancellation policy is in place to protect the integrity of your scheduled time. A 50% deposit is required at the time of booking, with the remaining balance due on the day of testing, prior to the appointment. All payments are non-refundable as each evaluation session is carefully prepared in advance, and last-minute cancellations limit access for other clients.

If you need to reschedule, we're happy to do so using your original deposit—just notify us at least 48 hours in advance. We understand that life happens, so extenuating circumstances will be thoughtfully considered. You’re welcome to contact us by phone or email to request a new appointment time.

How much do assessments cost?

Assessment costs range from $800 to $3,500, depending on the type of evaluation and the level of detail required to address the referral question. Fenton Psychological Services offers flat-rate pricing for each type of assessment to ensure clarity and transparency.

Clients will be informed of the exact fee prior to scheduling, so there are no surprises when it comes to billing. We believe in open communication and want you to feel confident in the process from the very beginning.

Will I have to do all of the measures live in the teleassessment session?

Not all assessment measures are completed live during the telehealth session. Some components will be sent to you in advance through our secure, HIPAA-compliant client portal or from trusted third-party platforms. You’ll be able to complete these questionnaires on your own time before your appointment, which helps streamline your testing day and ensures that live sessions focus only on the measures that require real-time interaction.

Are there any special equipment needed while testing?

No special equipment is required—but a few essentials will help ensure a smooth testing experience. You’ll need a device with a webcam (such as a computer, tablet, or smartphone) so the psychologist can observe during the virtual assessment. A reliable internet connection is also important, as well as access to your email and the secure testing portal to complete digital forms and assessments.

Why do I or my child need to be on camera on assessment day?

Being on camera is essential during the assessment to ensure an accurate and ethically sound evaluation. Direct observation of behaviors—such as communication style, attention, and social interaction—is a critical part of assessing for conditions like ADHD and Autism. This visual component allows the psychologist to gather important clinical information that cannot be captured through questionnaires and skills-based assessments alone. For that reason, having your webcam on during the appointment is required. It helps create a valid, trustworthy evaluation process that truly reflects your or your child’s needs.

Can evaluations be used for school accommodations (e.g., IEP or 504 plans)?

Yes. The comprehensive psychological report provided after your evaluation includes diagnostic impressions and individualized recommendations that can be shared with schools or other institutions to request support services, accommodations, or intervention plans.

How far in advance should I schedule testing?
We recommend reaching out at least 2–4 weeks in advance to secure a preferred time slot. Evaluation appointments are scheduled carefully to allow for individualized preparation and follow-up, so booking early ensures greater flexibility.

Is my information kept confidential?
Absolutely. All testing, communications, and documentation are conducted using HIPAA-compliant platforms to ensure your privacy and confidentiality. Your information will never be shared without written consent, except as required by law.

Can both parents or caregivers join the virtual sessions?
Yes. In most cases, we welcome involvement from both parents or caregivers during the interview and feedback process. This can help ensure a fuller understanding of the client’s history, strengths, and current challenges.

Will the psychologist collaborate with other professionals involved in care?
Yes. With your written consent (i.e., Release of Information or ROI), Dr. Fenton can coordinate with other professionals—such as pediatricians, therapists, or school staff—to help support continuity of care and ensure recommendations are implemented effectively.
